Last March, on a grey day, I saw this old man on 74th near Broadway. These are sought after now - a coupe in decent condition is rare. Probably an '81 or '82.

Yes - I remember a time when you could walk into a Mercedes dealer and buy one. It's the same 5 cylinder turbo motor that was the venerable 300D - the last year it was sold was 1985, but I think the last year for the coupe was '83. I got in the game late, bought a W124 '87 300D - six cylinders, and a turbo that blew around 75K. Mercedes realized they had screwed up combining that turbo with a trap oxidizer, and they paid to fix the car.
